Silverfish are very unsightly little creatures and, it can
be a real pain to eliminate them for good. If you live in a climate that is
very humid, you are more than likely going to suffer a silverfish infestation
than those that live in cooler climates. This is because silverfish bugs love
warm and damp areas. One piece of advice I will give you if you do live
somewhere humid, invest in a dehumidifier! They may come at a price but you
will benefit from it in the long run.
There are a number of ways you can ensure silverfish
elimination, one of these is to use silverfish pest control products but this
isn’t always the answer. They can be
expensive and if you want to make sure you eliminate silverfish from your home
forever; the last thing you need is to be at the local hardware store every 5
minutes buying yet another can of spray. Instead of spray try using cockroach
traps; these are just as effective at killing silverfish and you never know you
might catch the odd cockroach as well.
Other methods on how to get rid of silverfish are homemade,
try putting some masking tape around a jar with some bait in it, this can be
pretty much anything from sugar to a little wallpaper paste. The silverfish
will climb into the jar but won’t be able to get out again. You can also use
small pieces of cardboard that have been coated with a paste; silverfish will
go MAD for these but won’t be able to get off the cardboard once they have
stepped on it because of the sticky surface.

Once you are confident that you have managed get rid of your
silverfish bugs, you can take steps to ensure they do not return. This doesn’t
mean that you have to constantly put traps around the house; you can use
natural items in order to keep silverfish out of your home. Try putting some
cloves in places that you have seen silverfish, I guarantee you, they will not
cross the path of a clove; silverfish hate the smell of them. Other items
silverfish don’t like the smell of are cedar and citrus. Have some cedar placed
in certain places silverfish are likely to go to such as in the bathroom or
kitchen. You can also buy citrus sprays that smell really nice to you but not
to the silverfish.
Herbs are another thing that silverfish hate; just pop some
in a bag and dot them about your home. If you follow the steps contained in
this article and make sure you do it consistently, you will definitely be able
to rid your home of silverfish bugs forever!
